Definition / Belongs to this divisionThis sector includes the processing of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, the preparation of foodstuffs for human or animal consumption, and the production of a number of non-food intermediate products. This activity often results in valuable or less valuable by-products (such as leather, oilcake in cooking oil production).
A further breakdown of the sector is determined by the products: meat, fish, fruit, vegetables, fats and oils, dairy products, cereals, feed and other foodstuffs. Production can be done for own account or for a third party (for example: slaughter of an animal).
The processing industry also includes activities (such as bakeries, pastry shops, butchers and butchers, etc. that sell their own product) where producers also carry out retail activities together with production, even if the retail sale of the product is the manufacturer’s own which takes place in his shop. However, where processing is minimal and does not lead to a real transformation, the enterprise should be classified in Section G (Trade, repair of motor vehicles).
Food can be produced for direct consumption under the conditions mentioned in sector 56 (Hospitality).
The processing of slaughterhouse waste and by-products for animal feed is included in subsector 10.9, the processing of waste from the production of food and beverages into secondary raw materials is included in subsector 38.3 and the treatment of food and beverage waste in subsection 38.21.
It does not belong to this sectorThis sector excludes the preparation of food for immediate (eg restaurant) consumption
