Definition / Belongs to this divisionThis sector includes all food and drink services for immediate direct consumption, which may take place in a traditional restaurant, self-service restaurant, restaurant from which food and drink can be taken away, at a permanent or temporary point of sale, with or without seating. The decisive factor is whether the food is suitable for immediate consumption and not that type of establishment which provides the service.
It does not belong to this sectorIt excludes the production of prepared meals that are not produced for immediate consumption, nor semi-finished products that cannot be considered as ready meals (see 10 Food processing and 11 Beverage production). It excludes the sale of non-domestic products that cannot be considered as food or food that is not suitable for immediate direct consumption, see Section G (Wholesale and retail trade).
