Definition / Belongs to this divisionThis sector includes the provision of postal services with a universal obligation by one or more designated universal service providers. These services include the use of general service infrastructure, including mail order outlets, sorting and processing equipment, mail pick-up and delivery services. Delivery may concern e.g. letter mail, letters, postcards, printed papers, products or documents (newspaper, periodicals, advertising media, etc.), small packages. Other services supporting compliance with universal service obligations are also included.
This division includes:
- the collection, sorting, transport and delivery of letter-post items, small items and parcels (domestic or international) in the context of postal services with universal obligation; the transport may be carried out using one or more modes of transport, by own means of transport or even by public transport
- collecting letters and parcels from a mailbox or post office
